In-situ method for measuring sound absorption and insulation

The main objectives of  WP 3 are:

the definition of a new measurement method for sound absorption/reflection and airborne sound insulation of noise reducing devices (NRD) to be applied in situ. The description should be complete with regard to: choice of sound source and signal, use of multiple sensors, signal analysis and physical representativity (near field/far field connection, non flat NRD);

the assessment of the accuracy of the new method according to most accredited international standards. Selected samples will be mounted in dedicated outdoor test sites and evaluated through “blind” measurements. The statistical analysis of data will give an estimation of the measurement uncertainty;

the new method is aimed to be the basis for a future European standard for the qualification of NRD on the construction site.
